The nuthatches have arrived! I am both excited and relieved. After the (eventual) success of having a hummingbird feeder this summer, a songbird feeder seemed to be the natural progression.
I figured a feeder would be:
1. something for the cat to watch
2. give me a reason to go out on the balcony in the winter
The feeder went up on October 9th, and then there was a whole lot of nothing happening for a while. But this morning, all of a sudden, nuthatches!
(I do think that the marketers of the birdseed, who called it “zero waste clean feed for decks, patios, and balconies,” may have significantly underestimated just how much enjoyment birds seem to get from deliberately tossing seeds out of the feeder. Hopefully my downstairs neighbors like birds too!)
