So, as far as I can tell and in five points or less, here’s what’s happened in Supernatural so far this season.

1. Sam’s back, but creepy. Dean’s family trouble is showing. Cas is a sweetheart.

2. Sam’s okay(ish). Dean’s less angst-filled than ever, though it’s not really clear why. Cas is heartbreaking.

3. random humor

4. Cas! ::&hearts:: How is the internet not filling up and overflowing with comfort!Cas fic? GIVE THE ANGEL A HUG PLEASE!

5. If I had my way, the remaining episodes of the season would just be hugging. Of Cas. By everyone.

serrico has a theory that screwing with the soul is a rape metaphor, and whatever Castiel is up to using souls to power his weaponry is the equivalent of mass rape. Rachel's reaction to discovering what he's up to bears this out. If serrico's right, and I think she is, Castiel doesn't deserve our sympathy.
