movie review: Attack the Block
Apr. 26th, 2016 06:47 amWell, I went into it relatively prepared for the massive amounts of gore and death (thanks, wikipedia and doesthedogdie.com!). Other than that, I thought it was pretty good! (I get that the gore and death was part of the movie’s aesthetic, or whatever, but it’s not my jam.)
The interesting thing to me was how much random stuff the movie packed in beyond the basic ‘fight aliens’ plot. It would require very little tweaking to make the movie a rom-com, or a coming of age story, or a social issues drama. (Alternate choices: buddy comedy, heist movie.)
There were a *lot* of characters. It passed the Bechdel test. It had some interesting commentary on the recurring theme of monsters. All in all, I’m glad I saw it. (Though I 100% do not recommend watching when there is a critter making noise in the wall. Creeped me right out!)
