Jun. 1st, 2016 06:28 amLast week I was talking with some coworkers, and the topic of public speaking came up. And I said, “Public speaking is actually one thing I’m not scared of.”
Which, the more I thought about it, isn’t really true. It would be much more true to say that I’m not *more* scared of public speaking than other things. The idea of driving somewhere new and attending a social event are already scary enough; adding public speaking to that doesn’t change my feeling much. In some ways adding a public speaking element makes things better, because at least then everyone *expects* you to be nervous.
There’s not really any point to this story, except that I am in general a fearful and anxious person, and I try to keep my world from shrinking too much by psyching myself up to do scary things like making phone calls and then give myself stickers as rewards. And I would totally get a sticker for public speaking.
