nano day 11
Nov. 11th, 2017 07:00 amYesterday was the day! I am officially caught up to the on-track word count. Only 33,300 words to go...
(Also, can I just take a moment and say 'ugh.' That's a lot of words. I have read many nano pep talks saying that week 2 is the hard week -- for me it's more like everything between 10,000 and 40,000. Pre-10k I am full of optimism that this year will somehow be easier than the last time I did this, and post-40k I'm willing to put anything on the page as long as it increases the word count.)
(In between 10 and 40 I mostly spend a lot of time telling myself it's okay to stop if I'm not having any fun, and trying to decide if I want to keep going. I find myself getting frustrated by pep talks that talk about everything coming together. That's happened to me -- maybe once or twice. But usually it's just a long slog that never quite takes off.)
(Having said all that, it really does feel good to finish. And I've been doing a goal for stickers every month this year so far -- mostly things like walking, or stretching -- so it doesn't seem unusual to be trying to achieve an arbitrary objective by month end.)
IN CONCLUSION, HERE ARE MY TOP THREE REASONS TO DO NANOWRIMO THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH WRITING:
1. It makes other challenging things seem like maybe I could do those too.
2. It makes me feel like I have So Much Time in the day during December.
3. It gives me an easy answer to those icebreaker questions when you have to say something that 'most people don't know about you.'
