Mondays at work tend to contain a certain amount of small talk centered around the weekend. How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? But in the same way that I don’t particularly care what my coworkers did this weekend, they don’t particularly care what I did either — there is a script to these things that is in turns comforting and maddening.

On the plus side, it *is* funny.

Coworker: “How was your weekend?”

What I’m thinking: ‘Shen Wei wears a watch on his left wrist, but I’m not sure we ever see him actually look at it. Presumably quite a few of his powers have the potential to disrupt the battery power and/or electronics of a watch, but maybe it’s wound by hand and has gears instead? Or it’s fake. Is time even the same in Dixing? Did the Justiciar really imply that maybe people hadn’t *noticed* that the Hallows were gone? Because that doesn’t really match up with what I thought they were supposed to do, but on the other hand, it kind of seems like he’s a liar?’

What I say: “Great, great, how about you?”

ETA: In the VERY NEXT episode I watched, Zhao Yunlan asks what time it is and Shen Wei checks his watch!

I think time is standing still in Dixing until the Guardian Lantern is lit again. Hence the dramatic moment with the big dial moving in ep 40.

That's a good point, yes. The 10k years I could still put down to Haixing reckoning, but Chu's sentence is a purely internal thing, so yes.

I see Shen Wei as a guy who wears a mechanical watch, simply because the option is there, and he likes old-fashioned high-quality items (as evidenced by his very becoming, but also extremely fussy cravat thingie).

Is there ever an indication that Dixing powers in general interfere with electronics...? There might well be, I am just drawing a blank right now!

Water kid probably does have a problem, since most personal electronics won't take well to water, but that's not the power itself. Sha Ya might have to replace her electronics regularly if she gets nightmares / fits of anger and throws around lightning, too! But I tend to think the dark energy *itself* does not interact with technology at all. So teleporting is fine, and Shen Wei can't get away with that excuse not to learn how to handle a cell phone and text Zhao Yunlan BACK, dammit. ;-)
