When it comes to pets, I pretty much constantly call them anything except their name. (Which makes it interesting to me that I almost never do this with people.) Kismet got Tiger, and Bear, and Kitten, and pretty much every permutation of buddy, kiddo, friendo, pal, etc. (I knew him since he was a baby! We had an understanding!)
But it's been weird to use any of Kismet's words with Maggie, and I didn't meet her until she was 15, so it's different anyway. It's been a long process of trying things (haha, what an official way of saying 'blurting out whatever pops into my head') and seeing what sticks. Five months in, the answer is: babe, mostly. And sweet potato pie, which I have zero explanation for.
