duolingo thoughts
Sep. 25th, 2019 05:49 amI'm not sure the duolingo 'leagues' feature make any sense, and yet it does make me do more lessons. (Like, I understand that it is manufacturing a sense of competition and time pressure that don't actually exist, but it's still working? I'm not sure whether to be impressed or concerned.)
The other day I was telling someone that at this rate of learning, it'll take me ten years to be able to hold a conversation. But then I figured, hey, that's not so bad. I mean, I spent all of second grade using "nobody" instead of "no one" when I wrote, because I thought "no one" must be one word too, but "noone" just seemed wrong, and apparently I thought I'd just avoid it forever instead of asking someone? Also the word "bureau." What's up with that?
So I have spent at least ten years being baffled by english. And I didn't even get to use a fun app to learn it!
