One for the 'wait, what?' files, straight from the workplace kitchen! (Calling it a kitchen is maybe giving it too much credit. It's a hallway with some kitchen appliances in it, but it's where the coffee lives, so everyone calls it the kitchen. Also, there's a toaster, which has no part in this story but does lend credence to the 'kitchen' name -- where else would you put a toaster but the kitchen?)

Anyway, the kitchen has a refrigerator. (Two refrigerators; no, I don't know why.) And there is ice in the freezer. Handy! (You know, if you ever need ice.) Some people put ice in their beverages, which seems like a lot of work to me, but whatever gets you through the day.

The other day I was in the kitchen, and someone grabbed some ice from the freezer. One ice cube dropped on the floor, and they picked it up. AND THREW IT IN THE TRASH CAN.

I boggled. I have always operated under the assumption that dropped ice cubes go to the sink, where they will melt and go down the drain, not the trash can, where they will melt and just be a mess. Is this a thing? Ice cubes in the trash? What is the world coming to?

I've seen people do this before, as a reflex: something you might eat falls on the floor, it goes in the trash.

They probably just were on autopilot.

Hee! *hearts you*

(I would definitely throw dirty ice cubes in the sink!)
