marcicatSomeone asked me on Monday, "So, are you all ready for Christmas?" And I was like, "...No?"
(Because 'yes' would be blatantly untrue, and 'I'm slightly behind where I estimated I'd be in the preparations by now, but not worryingly so' seemed like a longer answer than they really wanted. It's always a guess how I'm supposed to answer these common social small talk questions. Some of them are easier than others.)
And this person said, "Ah, so you like to leave it till the last minute!"
I vaguely replied that every year is a little different, and escaped as quickly as possible.
But I'm confused. Monday was still a full NINE days away from Christmas. If I was completely ready for Christmas, what in the world would I do for those nine days? Even now, there are SEVEN days, including a weekend! Last minute to me is like -- Christmas Eve.
I suppose next time someone asks, I should just say one thing that's still on my not done list (aka wrapping). That would be better than a yes/no answer anyway, and it might distract them back into talking about themself. A PLAN. EXCELLENT.
