Since 'The Untamed' had so many yuletide fics, I read some, and it was Great. Except I had no idea who any of those people were. So I read a bunch more fic, because that is my strategy for these things, and then I was Just So Curious.

(Okay, full disclosure -- in between the yuletide reading and the curiosity, I realized I haven't really watched anything new since July-ish, and I sort of wanted to, and there was a brief moment where I was like 'I should watch History 3: Trapped.' So I read a bunch of fic for that, except the whole 'cop and mobster' AU always makes me SUPER SAD, and somehow this led me to thinking that watching something more sad would be... better, somehow?)

Which is a very long way of saying that I watched some of 'The Untamed' last night, and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. After the first ep I was like, 'This is excellent, they're not going to explain things, I love it!' And then after another ::cough:: few episodes ::cough:: I thought, "HOW LONG IS THIS FLASHBACK GOING TO LAST; I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THE PREQUEL."

A long time, it turns out. Apparently the prequel is more like half the show? (I found an episode guide, and puzzled my way through the names -- okay, I skimmed it.). A THIRTY EPISODE FLASHBACK ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

Anyway, it's cool -- I'm thinking about watching the episodes out of order, because I feel INVESTED now but there's no way I'm going to make it through 30 episodes of past shenanigans without peeking ahead.

As someone who was super interested in the present day story and got impatient with the flashback episodes at some point...I'm still glad I watched them all in order after I googled ahead. *g* But I took the advice of re-watching episodes one and two after the flashback ended, and found it worked out very well for me.

But yeah, since then I've watched the present day episodes seven times, and the flashback episodes four times, so my preference is pretty clear.

That's good to know! I feel like I will probably watch all the episodes at some point, but I'm still debating on the order. :)

*g* Looking back, I think some things would have lost the emotional impact on me if I hadn't watched the backstory first.

Which is funny because Trapped is about as HEA as that universe can reasonably get, lol.

But anyway OMG THE UNTAMED right? Right?

IKR??? (I think part of it is that when things are more fantasy-based, it's easier for me to imagine happier headcanons for them, but when it's more reality-based I get distracted with things like 'but what about their TAXES???' and 'I really hope they have a good physical therapist, because I'm concerned about the severity of this injury.' With The Untamed I'm just like 'IDK IT'S MAGIC!')

It's now been...a couple of months?...since I watched the show, and I still can't get over that.

THIRTY EPISODES! And I'm just sitting there like 'But what's happening in the PRESENT???'

YEAH, that flashback is way too long. I also wanted to get back to the present way before it was over, because - well - it's actually more interesting. But you do need the background knowledge, I'm afraid, so changing around the order will not actually make for a better viewing experience, and just end up taking interest out of both present and past. (Rewatching the first two eps after the flashback is done is a good tip, though!)

That is excellent advice, which I have completely disregarded in my viewing! I am one of those people that thoroughly prefers to know how the story is going to end before I commit to it, and it turns out I mostly just want to watch the kids run around being adorable. But thank you! I may very well go back and watch the series in the correct order after I'm done watching it out of order.
