workaday Wednesday
Apr. 22nd, 2020 05:45 amCompany meeting today! I'm not sure why I always think these meeting will provide interesting and/or valuable information; they rarely do. (And when they do, it usually leaks beforehand, so even then it's not the meeting itself that's useful.)
But I guess hope springs eternal, or something.
Things I would like them to talk about:
1) What factors will go into deciding how long employees work from home?
2) Will we be allowed to go back and get more of our stuff? (We were told to prepare for two weeks working from home. This is week six.)
3) Not sure whether I would prefer for them to lie about having a plan for the economic downturn, or admit that the plan is just to fire everyone.
Things I do not actually expect them to talk about: see above, 1-3.
And really, it's not like I can't answer my own questions, based on six years(!) of experience with these meetings:
1) They don't know. The question will be avoided with an answer that is simultaneously defensive and vaguely accusatory, emphasizing how UNPRECEDENTED this all is, AS IF WE DON'T KNOW THAT.
2) No.
3) The plan is to fire people. (It's funny how we're a "family" when they want us to work harder without additional compensation, but "this is a business" when people are being let go.)
Clearly only my cynical brain has woken up so far this morning. Should've started with duolingo instead of the news.
