workaday Wednesday
Aug. 12th, 2020 05:40 amThis was just The Most Classic, and therefore will be lovingly mocked celebrated. Okay, so with so many people working remotely, blah blah blah checking up on us blah blah blah staying connected, they key point is that we are supposed to have a daily "team check-in" via zoom in the late afternoon. These usually take about five minutes (sometimes less!), and that's counting the time to click the meeting invite and wait for everyone to show up.
On Monday, my boss was taking the day off, so someone else was tasked with "leading" this meeting. At ten in the morning, they sent an email -- did anyone have anything they wanted to discuss at the check-in? Because if not, they would cancel it.
(This hilariously defeats the entire purpose of the meeting, which is to discuss things that happened during the day -- you know, like the hours BETWEEN ten and four.) Naturally, no one had anything at that time, but 'something might come up later.'
No problem -- they emailed back to say they'd just check in again later!
Which they DID! So instead of one five minute zoom 'check-in,' we got two email check-ins. Which was fine! But also -- really? At least we all know the answer now to the question of 'how many check-ins are required to confirm that we don't need to check in?'
