how many mugs is too many?

The count is done: I have a grand total of 38 mugs in this apartment. (NOTE: It should be clarified that the number 38 ONLY includes mugs in the 'generally associated with beverage-type duties' category, and does NOT include mugs distributed throughout the apartment as pencil-holders, decorations, etc.)

It also doesn't count the *23* glasses I never use. (Okay, I actually use two of them to prop up the windows in the summer. They're very sturdy!)

And it doesn't count water bottles, which is what I ACTUALLY drink out of 99% of the time. (Glass water bottles -- love them!) It is true that I also have an embarrassing number of water bottles, but this post is not about that. (Not 38 of them, though! What is that?!?)

I am not against collecting things! I love things! But I refuse to move 38 mugs and 23 glasses if they're not sparking joy, and right now they're mostly sparking weeping.

PS: I still have not found the plates.

Hee! This made me count mine -- I have 36 mugs, which is probably twice as many as I need.

Btw, I'm on the edge of my seat, waiting to find out where the plates are hiding. ;-)

I am determined to move with FEWER than 38 mugs. One of the points of starting this whole process so early is that (hopefully!) it will let me do more sorting as I go, instead of the 'no time for decisions; just bring everything and figure it out later' strategy.
