Failure to Communicate
Nov. 4th, 2011 07:26 pmSometimes, my workplace and I have a failure to communicate. (But I’m still not sure if that’s a bad thing or not.)
For instance, when I went to write my November “email to myself” (instigated by work, long story, probably completely unnecessary), for the longest time, all I could think of to write was: “Fuck November.”
What did I end up with? “Share the love; we’re all in this together.” Which is nicer! I am pleased with that!
Or, take staff meetings. My first instinct, occasionally, is to say, “It pains me how poorly you behave in the workplace.”
What do I end up saying? “Let’s try to do better respecting each other’s preferences.” (Again, nicer! Less likely to get me fired! A Good Thing.)
But then my review comes along, and I’m all, “I Will Try To Be Better As A Person And Not Think Mean Things About You All.” And my boss is all, “Too cheerful.”
(And then I am confused! Because obvs. I do not want my boss to see the first draft of these things, but I do not want to be ‘the one who’s too cheerful’ either!)
