My childhood desk was an enormous weighty ex-office oak not flatpack thing, which my father and I re-varnished together. Of course, I didn't take it with me when I left home because I was in a dorm and then moved flats all the time, so my dad started using it. I think he still does, even though in the last 20 years they've moved house four times, while I've stayed put. :-)
