neighborly wisdom

I stepped out for a brief jaunt early this morning, and encountered a neighbor. Our exchange went something like this:
Me: "Getting out before it starts raining again?"
Neighbor: "It rained hard last night, didn't it? I'm so glad it's not raining today, for all the [events happening]."
Me: "...I think it's going to start raining pretty soon, actually."
Neighbor: "Oh, I hope not!"
This was all very friendly and casual, while inside I was all '!!!'
So, I was today years old when I learned that some people don't check the weather forecast at any point between waking up and going outside for the first time.
(When I wrote this down I was like 'well, obviously!' It's silly to assume that everyone would do that! And yet it's such an automatic action for me that I was definitely assuming that. I SHOULD KNOW BETTER.)
