workaday Wednesday
Oct. 2nd, 2024 07:53 amSoooooooo... arguably the biggest workplace happening that I missed last week (while I was on vacation; clearly more important) was the departure of the CEO. THAT'S RIGHT I was gone for three days, and in that amount of time they announced the departure and it happened. (My boss said it was two days -- announcement Thursday, last day Friday. But I didn't check the time stamps on the email to confirm, so I'm not sure.)
The new CEO started this Monday, so when my boss said "the departure was a surprise to everyone," that obviously wasn't exactly true. SOMEONE knew, because SOMEONE hired a new CEO. There's a company-wide meeting today to introduce them to everyone who's not important enough to have met them already. ::nervous laughter::
(Okay, but two things: first, this will be the third CEO at the company since I started, so at least there's some precedent for everyone NOT being fired during a transition. Second, I did genuinely think to myself 'but what about all that effort I put into playing cornhole?')
