Movie Review: Hugo

I could understand and appreciate the underlying message — we need art, and books, and films, and fanworks, and all of those things because they all allow us to imagine and dream and stretch and most importantly to connect with others. The shared experience of storytelling is hugely powerful.
2. And yet — man, that automaton was really creepy, right? Was that just a Doctor Who holdover scariness? I tried to not be creeped out, but I couldn’t help being all, ‘IT’S WATCHING YOU!!! GET OUT OF THERE AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!’
3. Also, and this is (one of) my essential problems with Harry Potter as well — hello, is anyone going to mention the severely traumatized young orphan in this story? I get that it was set in a sort of steampunk-fantasy-Paris-between-WWI-and-WWII, but still — every time the girl blithely sent him on his way, I wanted to throw things at the screen and yell ‘Will somebody please give him a sandwich! A hat, or some long pants — something!’
