It’s always a good idea to have a read on what’s important in a workplace. Take today, for instance — one of my coworkers called in this morning all, “OMG sorry, running late, funny story, see you soon.”

Good point about this call: INTRIGUING!

Bad point about this call: RAISES FALSE EXPECTATIONS OF HUMOR?

Said employee arrived (not too late, really), with a (relatively) funny story, AND followed it up by making coffee for everyone.

Good point about this technique: COFFEE

Bad point about this technique: NONE

This is an excellent life lesson about bribery being nice to people when you’ve inconvenienced them, even if it wasn’t really your fault and you’re totally not going to get fired over it or anything. (Namely, it works!)
