1. “Same Bat time, same Bat channel.”
As far as I know, this phrase is from the 1960s Batman tv show, as their “tune in next time” line, though it’s in (relatively?) common usage now. My co-boss uses it as a sort of “here we go again” code, though I have no idea if that means she is a secret Batman fan or not. (I like to pretend she is.)
2. “Second verse, same as the first.”
My preferred version of “here we go again,” particularly used when I’m on the phone with co-boss, as a substitute for eye rolling.
3. “It’s been Monday all day long.”
Answers the question “How’s it going?” as an alternative to “I hate Mondays.” Most effective on Mondays; for other days of the week the response “Not bad for a Monday” conveys pretty much the same feeling.
4. “It’s been the hole in the bucket all day.”
An alternative to comparing the day’s events to Lassie and the cheese cutter; since more people seem to be familiar with the “hole in the bucket” song than Lassie’s big adventure with the bear trap.
(Wikipedia informs me that this song is frequently called “There’s a Hole in My Bucket” (as opposed to “the bucket”), which totally sounds like a made-up song title from “Whose Line Is It Anyway” to me. I can just imagine Colin and Wayne saying, “And who could forget that timeless classic, sung in the bluegrass jazz style, ‘There’s a Hole In My Bucket.’”)
(Not Really 5.) You know what this post could use? More Batman.
