marcicat: (unicorn puking rainbows)

I’m in full-out nostalgia mode for reading right now — mostly sticking to stuff I’ve saved to the nook, rarely venturing beyond my network page on pinboard. (A surprisingly useful signal for when I’m emotionally stressed out, even if I can’t find any reason for the stress. When I can’t handle new things in my fictional reading material, I know to step carefully for a bit.)

But! I really liked this one: And There Are Deserts Still, by Amy. It’s sort of about Natasha and Jewish holidays, but I love the day-to-day stuff, and the idea that you really can keep going even if you have no idea who you are or what you’re doing. (The perfect message for emotionally fraught times!)

And, of course, there was this:

“Accounting’s my cover. He was out of a job and asked if I knew any place that was hiring. I did.”

“So you just recruited a random stranger to SHIELD.”

“He wasn’t a random stranger. We’d sat together at the Sisterhood bagel brunch once. Had a great conversation about the Knicks.”
