Movie Review: Inception
Jan. 8th, 2011 04:23 pm1. I gave this movie a pass in theaters because it looked too scary for me. Now I think they played up that aspect in the previews, because it was 1) not scary, and 2) not scary *even to me* who is scared of, well, everything.
2. I can see why so much fanfic actually covers the events of the movie, skimming over the actual dreaming parts. What *was* Arthur doing at the warehouse that whole time? How *did* everyone meet / know each other from before? Why *is* Eames so awesome at everything?
3. I have no idea how anyone watching the movie could pick up on the wedding ring — I think I caught a glimpse of Cobb’s left hand once, *maybe* twice, but certainly not consistently enough to form an opinion. Still, I am v.impressed by this interpretation of Cobb’s totem.
4. Re: totems, and Eames in general. Fanon seems to know four things about Eames: his totem is a poker chip, he’s a bad dresser, also a bad speller, and has gambling debts. I saw no evidence of any of these in the movie itself. (Except for Cobb telling him his spelling hadn’t improved, which — since we didn’t see any words — could equally indicate that Cobb is a poor speller. I’m just saying.)
5. So, Ariadne said she designed the third level as a hospital, right? I would seriously love to know what kind of hospital she was thinking of, since ‘snow bunker labyrinth’ doesn’t really seem to me to be indicative of ‘quality medical care.’
6. Possibly because I have read eight million fanfics about the movie, I did not find it confusing or hard to follow. On the other hand, I knew exactly what was going to happen going in, which is how I like it. Thing I was not expecting but liked: Yusuf’s cat.
7. Nifty musical thing that made me enjoy the (highly repetitive) music more. Way down right before the comments is a comparison of the Inception brrrmmmm brrrrrrrmmmm and the Edith Piaf kick song.
