Tomorrow morning, my workplace is going to have zero electricity. Yup — some sort of mysterious utility work is going to happen, which will mean the power (including water, toilets, lights, computers, registers, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioning, and phones) will be turned off at 7 am (ish).
In a moment of infinite optimism, we have decided to open anyway. I have no idea how we plan to do this. Pencils? Calculators? Asking people very nicely not to open the freezers and let the cold air out?
Now, there’s a chance that the power will be back on as early as 10 am. (This seems unlikely.) There’s also the chance that it will be out till more like 2 pm. (Anyone who’s ever waited for a repair person knows this number is much more apt to be true.) Or perhaps later.
My boss sees this as a “minor inconvenience.” I’m going with “potential catastrophe.” I guess we’ll know by tomorrow afternoon?
