“why do we even have that lever?”
Jan. 29th, 2015 07:46 amTuesday marked the second time my workplace has asked me to take the Myers-Briggs personality type test. (Not the full-length official test, just the free online short version.)
Which is cool, in theory — I can see where they’re coming from. Makes sense to know a bit more about how everyone in the group experiences the world. But I feel like the crucial next step of actually taking the results into consideration when making decisions about things like training and presenting programs is missing.
[Of note: my results have changed over the years, but the I stays the same. Virtually the whole group I work with are introverts. Yesterday I floated the idea that perhaps we could consider an introvert-friendly idea for our next team building event. “No,” my boss (definitely an E) said. “That would be boring.” Both the suggestion and the rejection were said in a very friendly, casual way, but it was definitely one of those ‘if you’re going to ignore what the results indicate, why make us take the test in the first place?’ moments.]
