marcicat: (agh a monster)
There is nothing quite like planning to be away from the apartment for several days and trying to figure out what to do with all the perishable food, while still planning meals that I'll actually *want* to eat. In related news, the summer CSA has come to an end, which means after this week I will not be eating beets until next year.

(So, it's not that I dislike beets, exactly. But they have a tendency to change the color of everything around them, and sometimes when food is the wrong color, it's hard to eat. I did finally figure out one successful strategy, which was to combine beets with foods that are *already* the wrong color. I roasted beets with parsnips -- aka wrong-colored carrots -- and rutabaga -- really always thought it was a red or pink vegetable anyway -- and was surprisingly pleased with the results.)

((CSAs often have veggies of a somewhat different size than the grocery store -- sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller. I spent many weeks confused about whether I'd been given a large turnip or a small rutabaga. They both roast well, so there's that.))
