marcicat: (duckling)

While I was chore-ing today, I managed to knock over my water bottle. I caught it, but not before it had spilled probably 8-10 ounces of water.

Good news: it was sitting on the kitchen counter when I hit it, and it spilled onto the counter instead of the floor or stove. Pretty much everything in the water’s path was countertop, plastic, or glass — very easy cleanup.

Bad news: more like confounding news? The other thing in the water’s path was my roll of paper towels. Which soaked up a *lot* of water before I thought to grab them up out of the way. After that I mostly just stared at them in bewilderment. What to do? Will they just — dry out again?

(I mean, realistically I’m not throwing out a perfectly good roll of paper towels because they got wet. It’s more that I’m just so used to the ‘see a spill, wipe it up with a paper towel, throw the used paper towel away’ steps. My brain stalled out at seeing paper towels that had clearly *just* soaked up a spill, but were still “unused” on the roll — one of those ‘does not compute’ moments for sure.)
