workaday Thursday: breakfast edition

Going to a company breakfast thing this morning! Sometimes I like to pretend that I am one of those employees who can handle things like ‘driving new places,’ and ‘changing my schedule.’

The trick in this case is that technically I have driven to this place once before. (I don’t really remember it, but I must have lived through it!) And also it’s not one of those ‘have to show up on time or you can’t get in’ events. (As far as I know. My guess is that it’s probably buffet-style, so you could fudge a bit with the timing and be able to say you were 1. in the bathroom, 2. in line, or 3. asking a question somewhere.)

My general strategy for company events is to pick a few to show up at, to prove I’m participating and engaged. Show up at the free breakfast, nobody bats an eye when you skip the bowling night. Show up for the non-denominational holiday gift swap, skip the holiday party.

My key indicators of a good event to pick:

1. Takes place during work hours. Huge bonus.

2. Free food.

3. Doesn’t involve drinking.

This one ticks all the boxes, so I’m goin’ to breakfast! If anything noteworthy (aka funny) happens, I will report back.
