marcicat: (heart wings)

One of the unexpected side benefits(?) of cutting my own hair is that I’ve grown much more familiar with my whorls/cowlicks. And there is for sure more than one. As far as I can tell, that’s why I get the wacky ‘breaking wave’ effect, which is just the baby cousin of the even wackier ‘peaks and valleys’ effect I’ve been sporting this week.

(I used to think that Wolverine’s hair was completely unrealistic. Now I think me may just be rocking some seriously strong hair whorl game.)

As it turns out, horse owners have been “studying” hair whorls pretty much forever, in the somewhat questionable field of “whorlology.” (Everyone seems to agree that predicting personality traits on hair whorls makes no sense but does it anyway, sort of like astrology, and as long as everyone keeps it fun it’s all good.)

Here’s the thing, though. I can tell myself a million times that it’s a fully unproven pseudoscience, and people really aren’t that similar to horses anyway, and yet sometimes I look in the mirror and I see my hair going every which way and I think, ‘Oh no — I’m the bad horse.’

I have no conclusion. Though I will admit to also googling the study of whorls in humans, which seems even more dodgy than horses, but does often link the direction of the whorl with right or left-handedness.
