*Today will include two meetings that -- optimistically, could have beneficial outcomes. More realistically, I will be extremely frustrated by both of them and the only outcome will be me alienating my coworkers by being argumentative and angry.

*This is, as one says, not ideal.

*Most days require an elaborate set of goals and rewards to get through what should be done for work. Today may require more than that.

*Alas, calling in sick would only delay the meetings to a later date. (In one of them, we'll be discussing a topic that was supposed to be decided LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME. There would be oh-so-much willingness to delay, but it would definitely make me cry.)

*It's hard to find a work-appropriate way to say 'I have trouble staying motivated because my job is immensely stupid and the people around me alternate between complete indifference and CRISIS MODE PANIC with no middle ground.'

*Conceptually, my job is not immensely stupid. Operationally, it usually is.

*So, I think the key today is to set realistically achievable goals.

1. Don't get fired.
2. Don't quit.
3. Do take at least one break every hour.
