year in review: writing
Dec. 28th, 2023 07:39 amI figured this would be an easy 'year in review' to start with, since I can just list 'em out. Now with added superlatives!
July & August 2023: my first time participating in Battleship Exchange! Very fun!
My first fic of 2023!
*Lives that keep their secrets
(Stranger Things) Scoops Troop for life. (future fic)
The first time I've written anything for Lower Decks!
*Enceladus
(Star Trek: Lower Decks) A routine lockdown on the Cerritos.
The fic that includes probably my favorite line! ("He's mean to me for no reason!")
*A wing and a prayer
(Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) After an alien entity turns Spock and Sam into children, Jim is called in to help, and everyone talks about their feelings.
My longest Battleship Exchange fic!
*Roll the Dice
(Stranger Things) Season 4 speed-run AU with magic and a giant fuck-off dragon.
The one I started with no idea how to resolve it!
*(dis)honesty is the best policy
(Star Trek: Lower Decks) Four ensigns, a shuttle, and a diplomatic ceremony. What could go wrong?
Unintentional but cool: this one has a palindrome for a word count! (1001)
*Game Night
(Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) "Ortegas wants me to join Game Night."
Arguably the least canon fic I wrote this year!
*Tomorrow, Again
(Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) James was surprised to wake up at all. Everything else he could figure out as he went. (AU of the AU)
Both my shortest and most kudos'd fic of the year!
*Ship's Cat
Ancient Earth sailors believed having a cat on their ship brought good luck. Starships took that idea and ran with it.
November 2023: NaNoWriMo time!
My longest fic of the year! Probably also the one I remember the least!
Hope in our hearts, reflected in the stars
(Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) In an alternate universe, the circumstances might be different, but the same people tend to find each other. (aka: An AU Kirk and Spock encounter a variety of spatial anomalies, meet up with new friends and current family, and have a wedding. Also featuring: pirates, dragons, a time loop, truth pollen, and far too many caves.)
