notes & quotes from a day of learning
Feb. 12th, 2013 09:04 amYesterday I got to take a “professional development day” — more accurately known as ‘sort of a vacation day’ when the boss is not around.
General Notes
1. Finally remembered to bring my travel mug — no dixie cup of coffee for me! Heck no, I put my 16 ounce mug down on the table and acted like I knew what I was doing, and didn’t get even a single disapproving glance.
2. I found the umbrella I was sure was somewhere in my car! (Also, learned how to turn off the car alarm, though I’m guessing it was more the final ‘holding down one button’ and less my original ‘button!smash’ strategy.)
Morning Quotes
“If you’re a kind, loving person, and your job is to kill people, well, there might be a disconnect there.”
“If you’re going to lie, lie positively.”
Lunchtime!
Afternoon!fail
I’m not so good at afternoon learning. Basically, what I got out of the afternoon was “Leaders lead,” which I had already learned from ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.’
One More Note
For some reason, we spent about fifteen minutes in one of the morning sessions playing a ‘would you rather do x or y’ game that involved standing on one side of a line or the other. (The ‘line’ was indicated by rolling toilet paper down the length of the room. It was a little odd.)
Anyway, there were a lot of ‘would you rather live in the mountains, or by the beach?’ type questions, along with stuff like ‘would you rather spend two years in a submarine, or on the space station?’ One of the questions was ‘would you rather be really lucky or really smart?’ Out of twenty people in the room, I was the only one who picked lucky. (I asked myself, ‘would you rather be like Domino, or Rodney McKay?’ Domino won. Now I want to know how other people picked an answer to that one.)
