movie review: Die Hard With a Vengeance

Die Hard 3 is essentially a heist movie, except we’re rooting for the cops. It came out in 1995 — for comparison’s sake:

The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)
Oceans 11: 2001 (12 was 2004, 13 was 2007)
Fast Five: 2012

Apparently I like to watch movies where the heist-ers are the heroes. It’s not like I was rooting against John McClane (that would be crazy!), but I will admit to feeling a small thrill of victory when the bad guys were celebrating.

Despite my brain’s confusion over the “good guys” (ps: Samuel L. Jackson was awesome), I’d rank Die Hard 3 above 2 (*way* above; the movie makers definitely learned their lesson about killing a bunch of civilians to make a point — as in, don’t do it), but below 4 and 1. Maybe equal to 1. (I liked 4, it had Justin Long and less swearing and on-screen violence.)
