I think I liked it my way better.
Jan. 24th, 2011 10:29 pmIt’s a running theme in my life that I rarely have any idea of the song lyrics I’m “singing.” This is mainly because while I enjoy singing (usually in the car), I don’t require songs to make any sense — I’m happy to just string random words together that seem (to me) to match up with what’s coming out of the radio.
Enter the song “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” It was pretty popular for a while back in, I don’t know, middle school, probably. And it’s bouncy and catchy and thoroughly enjoyable to sing along with, and so it’s on my ipod.
First Thing I Thought They Were Saying:
“And I said, what about, Breakfast at Tiffany’s,
She said I think I remember the fill there,
As I recall, I think, we both kind of liked it,
And I said, well that’s, the one thing we’ve got.”
[note: For some reason I always assumed this song was about a coffee shop, cleverly named after the famous movie. A coffee shop with good coffee, obviously.]
Second Thing I Thought They Were Saying
“And I said, what about, Breakfast at Tiffany’s,
She said I think I remember the fill-man,
As I recall, I think, we both kind of liked him,
And I said, well that’s, the one thing we’ve got.”
[note: After a more careful listening, it became clear that there was no way the line said "fill there;" it sounded much more like "fill man." And that was where my brain came up with this more unusual variation on the song.]
And Then It Came To Me This Morning When This Song Was Playing And I Was Stopped At A Red Light:
“And I said, what about, Breakfast at Tiffany’s,
She said I think I remember the film and,
As I recall, I think, we both kind of liked it,
And I said, well that’s, the one thing we’ve got.”
[note: OH! There's no coffee shop! I see that now! They're actually talking about the movie! Well, the lyrics make a whole hell of a lot more sense now, but the song doesn't seem quite as interesting. I'm still getting over the fact that there's *no coffee shop.*]
