Like many people, my intended grocery shopping experience doesn’t typically match up with reality. For instance, at the start of this week I thought to myself, ‘I definitely won’t need to go grocery shopping until the weekend!’ There was even a little mental exclamation point on there, I was that sure.

And yet this evening I found myself pulling into the grocery store parking lot with this completely inadequate list in my pocket:

english muffins
toilet paper
pizza?

That was it. (I added ‘mac and cheese’ and ‘frozen peas ‘n carrots’ on the fly, because I’m a rebel that way.)

Sadly, there’s no real point to this story. Although the cashier did ask if I had any “special bagging instructions,” and I thought he was making a joke about my random selection of stuff. (Because I had provided one bag, and I only had five items — how special could the instructions be?) But it turned out it was his first day cashiering without a trainer. Kudos to you, cashier!
