My new work schedule means that my partner in crime coworker and I are the last people to leave the building in the evening, so we shut off the lights and set the alarm. This has been going well for the last couple weeks.

Last night we ran into a slight problem. The alarm keypad has a flip-down cover to make it look pretty, or to keep people from being tempted to push the buttons, something like that. So there we both were, in the dark (we have flashlights), and I flipped the cover down, no problem. Set the alarm, no problem. Tried to flip the cover back up — it FELL OFF.

Once you set the alarm, you only have 30 seconds to leave the building. Which my coworker reminded me of by saying, “We only have 30 seconds!” (Might I add, this was said between gales of laughter.) And it’s not like I make my best decisions when I’m under the pressure of a 30 second window; I am clear on this.

So we left it. Alarm was set, we were exited, does the keypad cover really matter?

I guess we’ll find out today.
