Since December, I have been told that one of my ongoing work assignments is being changed up to make it “significantly easier” for everyone involved. (And any time you hear that, it’s not like fireworks of celebration go off in your head — I mean, best case scenario it’s 100% true, but you wind up with a second task assigned on top of it.)

So my expectations were low, but really, after five months you do begin to wonder. Maybe it’s actually going to make things easier! There must be a reason it’s taking so long, right?

And then this week I got to see a “sneak preview” of the new system. I was told “You’re going to love this!”

Mmm, not so much. No big surprise, but the new system is HUGELY more difficult to manage. At least three times more work than I’m doing right now with it. And I can sort of see why it’s being set up that way (okay, not really, but there’s a corporate sort of logic to shifting time-intensive tasks onto the lowest-paid person who probably won’t screw it up), but I’m still utterly confused why anyone would think I would love it.

(“Isn’t it great?” my boss asked, apparently in all seriousness. I was sort of speechless at that point, but I must not have looked too horrified, because silence was taken as agreement.)

Now, of course, it’s not actually being rolled out until June. Maybe the middle of June. They’d really like it to be the middle of May, but given that it’s taken this long so far, I’m kind of expecting it to be more like July. We shall see!
