why, netflix, why?

I’m signed up for the 2 dvds per month plan on netflix. Sounds simple, right? It would be, except netflix sometimes sends a third dvd FOR NO APPARENT REASON.

I mean, on the one hand it feels crazy to get fired up about this, because hey — extra dvd! Yay!

But on the other hand, I like knowing what I can expect. (Not great with surprises.) The queue is ordered on the expectation that dvds will arrive two per month; there’s a plan!

[But wait, it gets better! So I went googling to see if I could find the actual text that netflix gave me yesterday in the ‘wondering why you have an extra disc?’ answer, and apparently this MYSTERY DISC issue is one that people have VERY STRONG FEELINGS about. I thought it was a somewhat humorous way to highlight my own difficulties handling the unexpected, but people have actually called netflix customer service over this. Repeatedly.]

It's...not a mystery? They send you the next DVD you have listed when one of the two you were supposed to get is temporarily unavailable (mostly due to things like shipping). So sometimes you get an extra disc.

Which is a totally good explanation, and that has happened too, in the past. And yet! This month, I had already received one disc, sent it back, received my second disc, and sent that one back. Netflix clearly showed "you have no dsic rentals remaining in this period." Except now they have sent a third disc! Which is awesome! But mysterious!

Wow. I have honestly never heard of that before. I mean, the explanation I wrote is the one they write themselves in your DVD queue if you click the "why do I have an extra disc" thing, but unless that was the world's fastest mailing mishap ever, you just got awesome'd by the universe!
