movie review: Hocus Pocus
Aug. 16th, 2015 09:07 amMy coworkers lied to me about this being the greatest Halloween movie of our time; I would personally rate it below the only other Halloween movie I can think of (‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown’), and I didn’t even really like that one (I never understood Snoopy’s fantasy life; it was very confusing to me).
This was not a horrible movie. However, when my coworkers “explained” it to me, this is sort of what I imagined:
“Max, a hapless 1990s teenager, accidentally summons 3 witches from 300 years ago on Halloween. They offer him ridiculous advice about everything in his life; he tries to hide them from his parents/classmates/neighbors while he figures out how to send them back. Hilarious shenanigans with future technology and magic ensue, and there is a talking cat.”
Which is not the movie at all. Basically, I was expecting a lot more ‘Sabrina, the Teenage Witch’ but what I ended up with was ‘Hansel and Gretel: Teenage Witch Hunters,’ in the style of the tv show ‘Seventh Heaven.’
