In a surprise twist, I found myself reading an article on “how to cozy up your living space for fall” this morning — a morning on which I have all the windows open and there’s about 100% humidity. (The temperature inside has actually dropped two degrees since I got up, with no AC assist. Last night was a lot of waking up and thinking ‘yup, still hot out.’)

[Note: On the other hand, we’re currently in sort of the fun part of the heat wave? Today is the cloudy/stormy day after three days of 90s and sun, so it’s a) kind of exciting; b) somewhat cooler already; and c) no one expects you to be at your best, which is reassuring.]

Anyway, so I was reading this article and it said: “set the thermostat to 62 degrees or below while sleeping or away from home. A thick comforter will keep you warm at night while saving you money at the same time.”

Of course my first thought was ’62 degrees, are you nuts?!’ Then I came up with a few variations I feel are more realistic:

*”With your thermostat set to 62, a thick comforter will keep you warm at night while ensuring you never want to get up in the morning.”

*”Set your thermostat to 62 to make all your apartment neighbors hate you!”

*”Unless you leave your thermostat at 62 during the day as well, you probably won’t actually save money, although this is really a more complicated issue that depends on your heating system and a variety of outside factors we didn’t bother to go explore in this tiny blurb.”
