movie review: Cinderella (2015)
Oct. 27th, 2015 07:03 amWell, it was pretty, and the oft-repeated “message” was overall a sentiment I can support. (Although I would argue that forgiveness and kindness aren’t really the same thing.) It cracked me up every time Erik Selvig’s actor said anything, which was fun.
But it made no sense! (Totally my issue with Frozen, all over again!) So, Ella and her parents live in an enormous house (clearly an estate — they had farmers!), and their family had lived there for 200 years (so, not new money). And they were pretty much within walking distance of the palace. Ella should have been well-known in the community! And she should have had relatives! WTF happened?
The only answer I can come up with (because it’s more fun for me to try to make these things make sense), is hinted at by the mysterious sicknesses in the movie. Seriously, three characters went from seemingly hale and hearty to dead weirdly quickly. But it’s obviously not very contagious — no quarantining in any of the three cases, and the doctors never seemed surprised by it. So apparently it’s just one of those quirks of living in a magical kingdom — fairy godmothers, friendly mice, and fast-moving maladies that wipe out significant percentages of the population once they pass 40 years old. Harsh.
