In an effort to not make sarcastic comments around my boss (just not a good idea), or anyone else at my place of employment (unfair to all involved, really), I decided to save it for the internet. Because if you can’t write your scathing workplace commentary online, where can you write it?

At any rate, the dust-up from earlier in the week seems to have largely been swept under the carpet. I am sort of okay with this and sort of not. I mean — good aspect: I am still employed! On the other hand — I thought this wasn’t supposed to be about *my* job being on the line anyway!

The ‘fluffle seemed to boil down to this, and I am not even kidding: I spend too much time at work doing my job.

No, really. Apparently, my coworkers and boss would appreciate it if I spend less time working and more time schmoozing with them and asking them pretty please with a cherry on top could you do your job.

Downside: I don’t want to. I want to go to work and do my job, and I want everyone else to do theirs. We do not have to talk about your cousin’s kid’s soccer game to accomplish this. I am willing to participate in outside-of-work events as a show of good faith and team spirit, but I resent being told that I need to do it on work time too. It’s not like they want less work to get done, after all — oh no, I’m supposed to do as much as ever, but *also* be “friendlier.”

Upside: At least my boss told me what the expectation is. You want friendly? I can do that. I’ve been so damned friendly this week, I know how long our delivery guy has been seeing his current girlfriend, *and* what he did for their three month anniversary. I had a small child spontaneously hug me. You can’t make me actually like you, but I’ll tackle the challenge of sincere friendliness like it’s my job. (Even though it really isn’t. And I still refuse to beg others to do the job they’re paid for.)

Anyway, that’s my work story of the week!
