Technique #2 for talking about fanfic at work:

Yesterday someone asked me “what’s your novel about?” (More fool me for bringing up NaNoWriMo, but I was in that adrenaline rush of success!)

Not particularly wanting to say, “It’s Independence Day Resurgence fanfic, because Connie was robbed of her place in the story and Jasmine didn’t need to die,” I came up with this:

“It’s a ‘what happened next’ story for the second Independence Day movie.”

(Alternately: “It’s a ‘behind the scenes’ story.”)

I would rate this technique: successful!
