I went out for a walk at the state park this afternoon -- I figured it was that or going to the movies to see Thor 3. Walking won by virtue of being 1) cheaper, 2) shorter, and 3) less likely to make me cry.
And it was a lot of fun! Days are short this time of year, so I had specific timing goals in mind and had fun trying to beat them. I saw some cute doggos, took a few pictures, and got home in time to feed the cat. (It is always time to feed the cat.)
I did have one somewhat humorous interaction with a small child towards the beginning of the trail. He was part of a large-ish group all heading out as I was heading in.
kid: "Are you just starting the hike now?"
my internal dialogue: really it's been like 20 minutes since I left the car, so I don't think that's exactly starting, and I actually sort of planned to be here two or three hours ago, but then I wanted to put the butternut squash in the crock pot, and if I was going to do that it made sense to do the other cooking, and then I was hungry so I had some lunch, and is this kid worried about my safety, because I did think this through and I'm pretty confident it's going to work out, and wow I should probably answer him at some point
me: "Uh, yes, I am."
