let’s call it recovery

I’m at that weird point in cold recovery where I haven’t really been able to smell much for a week or so, and it’s starting to come back, but not all at once, so my brain is getting hints of things but not a full picture.

Which is to say, I’m at the point where I *sort of* smell something, and my brain leaps to fill in what it might be.

Me: Hey, what’s that?

Brain: a smell! is it barbecue? daffodils? garlic? cake?

Me: None of those things are anything alike.

Brain: ooh, maybe it’s fried rice! or a campfire!

Me: I’m not sure this is helping.
