Because Rogue One was like ‘is it worth it to do bad things/things you find personally immoral in order to serve a greater good? where is the line, if there is a line?’ (Like, Cassian killed that guy in the beginning, and the Rebellion was like ‘okay no biggie,’ but Saw Gerrera ‘went too far’ and was kicked out, right?) And there was this whole idea of doing things For The Cause — very big picture, very ‘let’s all sacrifice our lives to get the plans so that someday the Empire will be defeated.’
[And they did. And it was. Sort of. And then the New Republic fell too, which is a thing that happened.]
So then along comes Solo, which took a different view entirely. Because that whole concept was like ‘no matter how big you get there’s always a bigger fish out there.’ Whatever cause you serve, there’s another bigger cause waiting to subvert your efforts, and while your actions influence how the big picture turns out, you can’t always predict how that influence will play out.
Which really leads to that “if nothing you do matters, all that matters is what you do” mentality. And is pretty much just a long and rambling way of saying that I really liked that Chewbacca went to help the other wookie, and that everyone was just like ‘you gotta do what you gotta do, pal.’
