SAFETY DAY has been achieved

And so the answers to all most some of my questions have been revealed!
1. A million kudos to the people who walked around both before and after the event saying things like, ‘Are you working? No working today!’ Even my boss could not deny this evidence. The intention was that the company was closed, and that only the absolute necessity ‘this has to get done right now’ things were required.
2. The person in charge of the event announced we were all getting paid for 8 hours, and it was announced with a megaphone in front of a hundred-ish people. While I am not at all convinced that the payroll details were figured out ahead of time, I am completely convinced that better rabble-rousers than I will take up the cause if something goes awry.
3. Mandatory, unless you were willing to explain why you weren’t there to the guy with the megaphone.
4. Oh, parking. They managed to get our neighbor to open up their lot, which was helpful. Tons of people wound up parking on the street, which was less so.
5. There was water outside. And inside. My best guess is that the outside water sort of came as a bundle with the lunch catering, so why not offer it.
6. OH, THE STORIES. Okay, here’s one. So one of the guests was a women’s self-defense rep selling stuff like pepper spray and stun guns. And she kept saying, ‘All of these are legal in NH!’ And all I could think was, ‘They might be legal to HAVE; that doesn’t mean you’re not going to get in legal trouble for USING them.’
Anyway, for better or worse, SAFETY DAY has been achieved!
