As a kid, I often pondered what might my job might be when I grew up.  I was never sure, although based on my Old Maid card deck, Baker seemed like a good choice for a long time.  (There was a cake!  I liked cake!)

But part of the appeal of the Baker card was surely the clarity of the role.  What does a baker do all day?  Bake things.  Makes sense.  (I do remember being confused why the Old Maid was the card you DIDN’T want, since it appeared to be a woman who patted cats all day — talk about a dream job!)

There were other jobs that were easy to conceptualize too — teacher, firefighter, construction worker (all of those seemed harder than baker, and did not feature cake on their cards).  I could never figure out what an “office worker” actually DID at their job.

And now, years later, I can confirm: I still don’t know.  Even though I have an office job, I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing all day.  (I have, however, determined that I don’t particularly have the patience or perseverance for baking.  Still holding out for that cat lady job, though!)

YES. BEING AN OLD MAID WITH CATS INSTEAD OF CHILDREN/HUSBAND IS A DREAM JOB.

If only you could get paid for it!
