did not know
Jun. 29th, 2019 07:45 amI was driving somewhere new yesterday, so I stuck my phone with the map app in the [whatever that part of the car is called with the speedometer display?]. There's a little shelf bit that lets you prop up your device; it's very handy. Also, it was 90F degrees out, and my car had been in the sun, so it was a little toasty.
It took maybe 30 minutes to reach my destination, and when I grabbed my phone I thought 'gosh, it's hot!' And then when I went to take a picture of my car* I got the WARNING CAN'T USE THE FLASH YOUR PHONE IS TOO HOT alert. An exciting and worrying new message from my phone!
(*I have a terrible time remembering my license plate, and I figured on the slim chance that I arrived back at my parking spot -- aka the side of a dirt road next to a trailhead -- to find that my car had been towed, or stolen, or whatever, I would probably need the license plate number. There were other cars parked there too! It seemed totally fine! But I am a worrier, and if taking a picture eases my mind, well, why not?)
ANYWAY. I took the phone out of the case, which it turns out is actually recommended for overheating situations, and it eventually stopped giving me that message, which seemed good. This morning I checked out what the internet says about it, and the advice was 'don't use the GPS or maps.' But that's what I need it for! I could probably have done a better job keeping it out of direct sunlight, though. Next time!
