caturday work update
Mar. 14th, 2020 06:49 amMy workplace has instructed all office staff to work from home for the next two weeks. They've even stopped using the phrase "out of an abundance of caution," though the email was so long it's honestly possible that it was in there and I just missed it.
The best part of it all was the "work from home guidelines" they attached as a separate document, which were at least good for a few laughs. Many of them would have been more suitable for a letter to young children getting homework for the first time. ("Make sure you have a dedicated area at home where you'll be able to do your work;" that sort of thing.)
A surprising amount of the guidelines were focused on making sure no one accidentally shared any CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION. (Surprising because I had no idea any of us had access to confidential information. My job is mostly collecting publicly-accessible documents and then summarizing said documents into bullet-point emails for other people, which they generally do not read.) ((It's entirely possible that the list of guidelines was pulled from the internet without much thought to customizing it.))
And okay, no, the BEST-best part of it was that after we all got the email, my boss called us in for a meeting and shared that THEIR boss was concerned that people might slack off during this 'work from home' period. Which is insulting in so many ways, not the least of which is that it shows a real lack of understanding of our ability to slack off at the office.
